Strange Planet (2012)

Inspired by the experience of acculturation to a new home, and characterized by disorientation and a pervasive undercurrent of aggression, Strange Planet is a dance theatre work that disperses choreographic power to the performers, who are able to direct the work and each other from within the performance. As the past, present and future co-mingle, the six performers struggle to navigate a world disintegrating around them, trying to remember what must happen, to recognize what has already happened and to be ready for what has never happened before. 

Directed by Jordan Fuchs with live sound design by composer Andy Russ, and created and performed in collaboration with Toby Billowitz, Kristina Isabelle, Juan Pablo Montes, Leslie Scates and Storme Sundberg, Strange Planet is an evening-length project that premiered in 2012. 

Strange Planet has been developed in residencies at Texas Woman's University in Denton and Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex in Houston, and was also made possible, in part, through support by Dance New Amsterdam’s RAW Directions Program, Movement Research at Judson Church, the TWU Department of Dance, TWU School of the Arts Faculty Scholarship Enhancement Grants, a TWU New Faculty Research Enhancement Program Grant and the Hunter College Dance Program.
