Video Still

“Pressing’s layered dynamics occur in the oscillations between stable and unstable configurations. Fuchs gives color, skin, body, movement and emptiness equal billing as each element enters with its own dimensional heft. Here, movement doesn’t need to do all the heavy lifting. Fuchs’s keen sense of knowing what is enough to take in at any given movement moment gives our eye time to settle in as well as we entrain to the dancers’ rhythms. Pressing is at once contemplative and dynamic, intimate and abstract, minimal and luxurious–ultimately reveling in visual ambiguities.” Nancy Wozny

Pressing (2021)

Using video counter-intuitively to highlights moments of stillness rather than motion, the screen dance Pressing offers an intimate vision of entwined bodies rolling, resting, allowing sensation and time, and together creating glowing, breathing puzzles of color and identity. Directed and edited by Jordan Fuchs, Pressing was shot in spring 2019, and features a sound score by composer Andy Russ and dancing by Leah Estick, Irving Maldonado, Reyna Mondragon, Martheya Nygaard, Anthony Otero and Lily Sloan.
